Kansas State Routes KU

The Kansas State (K-State) Wildcats swept the University of Kansas (KU) in baseball this past weekend. The victories moved the Wildcats to number six in the rankings of the Big 12. They will next face off against three-seeded Oklahoma in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship.

I’m sure that Kansas State tire covers and other school paraphernalia are flying off the shelves in light of this incredible season. With 34 wins, the baseball team is tied for fourth-most in school history. The magic number seems to be 34, as that was also the number of runs produced in the series, the most since 1997. Way to go Wildcats!

LOVE YOUR TEAM

I am an avid Detroit Lions fan and a University of Michigan football fan. I collect one rookie card of all players who played for Detroit or turned pro for the Wolverines. It is an interesting hobby and as long as I stay to these parameters the collection won’t overwhelm me. Maybe you’re asking why am I blogging this…because it is my way of staying active in a sport that doesn’t go year round. It is also an interest that gives me the pride every time I find that rare card to add to my collection. Keep in mind that neither team has been at the top for a while.

Maybe someone out there can find the same gratification for his or her team, when you find that 1935 card, the autographed card, or the one of a kind negative you can enjoy the thrill of a win even if your team didn’t. So, fly your flag, cover your grill, or just wear your sweatshirt with your favorite teams logo. Besides maybe you’ll find that card that is worth hundreds of dollars, but only cost you $5.00.

Wolverine Basketball Turning Corner?

What do yoMichigan Wolverines University NCAA Grill Coversu know? The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Michigan State Spartans in a basketball game. It only took 11 years, but here it is just the same. John Belien seems to be making his teams better each year. It took a few years to get out of the kiddie pool at the NIT and into the 64.

They’re not getting a lot of wins but they are getting quality wins and near misses. Maybe, just maybe, the fab 5 can be put to rest and a new era of quality basketball can begin. Until then we can revel in the grilling the Spartans took this time around. And by the way did I mention the victory was in East Lansing? GO BLUE!

Part Of The Crowd

What an experience, attending the opening game of my favorite college team. It seemed that everything had the same colors. I walked through the golf coarse on my way to the stadium and felt like a kid in a candy store. There were footballs, games boards, bar stools, tee shirts, and everything you could possibly imagined. One person even had his grill complete with cover and matching grill mat. People had their vehicles painted with school colors and there animals in their little sweaters. And then who would of thought it would be a record-breaking crowd. It is a day in which will last forever in my memory.

Who would of thought I would live long enough to see two Lions starting in the Pro Bowl? I have been a Lions fan for well over 35 years, at least that’s as far back as I can remember. So, I will break out my Lions tire cover and Nebraska grill mat  have my own little tailgate party before the game. But wait, there were also three alternates named as back ups. Wow, there could be a possible five Lions in the Pro Bowl. I realize that it is cold outside but has hell really frozen over? Congratulations to Calvin Johnson and Ndamukong Suh for being named starters. Also, to Stefan Logan, Lois Delmas, and John Wendling. It’s been a while since I even thought about watching the Pro Bowl, thanks.

Party Time!!!

We built a tri-level party deck out in back of the house against the cement slab. We have a 5 man hottub with a bar built around it. We built a bar along the other side with neon lights and colored acrylic along with an angled roof. We also have an L-shaped glass bar with matching stools on one level of the deck with a gazebo over it for some shade. We put solar lights along the fence to help guide the path to the entrance after the sun sets. Off the deck we have our grill and grill mat to help protect the deck from spillage.

All our friends and family love coming to our parties and letting their hair down and forgetting all their problems. We have a dance area and hula hooping is in. We made a homemade Jenga game for the deck and leave it set up for all to play. Jenga stands about 3 feet tall and what a conversation piece.
