Are You Ready for Some Football?
Undergrads are moving back into their dorm rooms this week, but college football players have already been on campuses across the USA preparing for the beginning of college football season. There’s something about the first home game of each season that is just electrifying. Part of it has to do with the beginning of several months of tailgating each weekend with friends, parked out with various NCAA college tire covers hanging off of spares.
Football season also renews school pride. Every victory is an opportunity to proclaim how great your alma mater is – certainly better than the school the person the next cubicle over went to (unless he or she went to the same school as you, of course). I know that I’m excited for the upcoming season! How about you?
Go Gators!!
The Florida gators are the intercollegiate sports teams that represent the University of Florida. The “Lady Gators” is an alternative nickname sometimes used by the Gators women’s teams. The University Of Florida, its athletic program, and its sports fans are collectively referred to as the “Gator Nation.”
The Florida Gators athletic program has been recognized as the best overall in the Southeastern Conference over the past two decades, and consistently as one of the best in the nation. Due to the fact that they are so outstanding at how they play, their fans are highly dedicated. Just driving down the street you can see the fan base. The Florida gators tire covers are prominent on most of all the cars as a show of support to the team.
A Brief Look at American Football
The creation of American-style football can be linked to early versions of the European game called rugby football, which originated out of Britain during the mid 19th century. There are several major differences between these two games, most notably being the rule changes that were instituted by Walter Camp who is considered to be the father of American football by many.
An example of one of these new changes was the introduction of the line of scrimmage and that of down-and-distance rules. In the late 19th century and early 20th century several college coaches also came to influence the game of American football with tactics like the forward pass. Professional football was not introduced until 1892.

Who Will Save The Big 10?
It is bowl season again and after watching the Big 10 perform in their perspective bowl games, I believe I should have gotten off my bar stool and played pool instead. It was a total thumping. Michigan couldn’t stop an old lady on oxygen in a wheelchair from scoring. Michigan State couldn’t score if they were they only team on the field, unless you consider ex-coach Nick Saban. Who would have thought that Northwestern would be one of the high points, being down by 18 points at halftime? Maybe I should change my view of U of M tire cover out for a Penn State grill mat and a Wisconsin grill cover. But wait they couldn’t win either.
Is Nebraska warming up to join the Big 10 with their loss to a barely qualifying Washington? Iowa was the only surprise after defeating 12th ranked Missouri in the Insite Bowl. With the only Big 10 team left to play (Ohio State) I wonder what the two divisions should be really named, Daisies and Buttercups?

Troy University Triumphs Over Ohio University
Troy University quarterback Corey Robinson led the Trojans to victory over the Ohio University Bobcats at the New Orleans Bowl. Robinson threw for 387 yards and four touchdowns, leading Troy to 48-21 victory. Fellow Troy teammates Tebiarus Gill and Jerrel Jerrigan each had a great game, as well. Gill had a New Orleans Bowl-record three touchdowns and Jerrigan had seven catches for 48 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown. Troy finished the game with yet another New Orleans bowl record, 602 offensive yards.
Trojan fans are hoping the win will bring them a bit more national recognition. Though they may not be taken as seriously as they want to, they did prove that they have a quick quarterback with a lot of potential. Ohio University’s loss was not unexpected; they knew that they needed to play well on defense and control the ball on offense, both of which they failed to do. Perhaps a re-match next season will console them. Until then, Bobcat fans can cheer up by purchasing ncaa college tire covers for next fall’s tailgates.
