NFL and NFLPA Donate to 9/11 Charities and Memorials
It’s hard to believe that this coming September will mark ten years since the 9/11 terrorist attack. In honor of the 10th anniversary the National Football League and the NFL Players Association have pledged to donate $1 million to three 9/11 memorials and two charities. Of the $1 million, $500,000 will go to the 9/11 Museum and Memorial in Manhattan, $250,000 will be divided among the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pa. and the Pentagon Memorial Fund in Washington D.C.
The remaining $250,000 will be raised at an and be divided equally between Tuesday’s Children and MyGoodDeed. This is not the first time the NFL has been involved in charitable donations to 9/11 memorials and charities; the New York Giants and the New York Jets have made donations in the past. I’m not sure what will be in the auction, but I’d be willing to place a bid on some NFL tire covers and plenty of other memorabilia, especially since the proceeds are going to worthy causes.
Football Preview: Purdue Boilermakers
Last season was not a stellar one for Purdue football. The 2010 season started out all right but then the team began to stumble. This year the Boilermakers are hope to build on their returning class. While their youth may be seen as a disadvantage, having had a year to learn how to play cohesively could prove to be a big boon this upcoming season.
Some of these young guys will have to step up to the plate. There will be a difficult stretch of road games against Penn state, Michigan, and Wisconsin, not to mention a match-up at home against the Buckeyes. There’s no doubt that if Purdue wants a run at a bowl game they’ll have to fight hard for it. I’m sure the fans sitting out in the parking lot with Purdue Boilermakers tire covers are eager for a comeback.
Are You Ready for Some Football?
Undergrads are moving back into their dorm rooms this week, but college football players have already been on campuses across the USA preparing for the beginning of college football season. There’s something about the first home game of each season that is just electrifying. Part of it has to do with the beginning of several months of tailgating each weekend with friends, parked out with various NCAA college tire covers hanging off of spares.
Football season also renews school pride. Every victory is an opportunity to proclaim how great your alma mater is – certainly better than the school the person the next cubicle over went to (unless he or she went to the same school as you, of course). I know that I’m excited for the upcoming season! How about you?
Football Preview: Auburn Tigers
Aside from die-hard fans, no one could have predicted that Auburn would take home the 2010 national championship. Think about it: 2009 was a losing season for Auburn and even in their undefeated national championship season they made sloppy plays, starting with giving up 26 points to Arkansas State in the 2010 opener. It is all thanks to Cam Newton that the squad was able to pull through and ultimately beat Oregon for the title. For his efforts, Newton won the Heisman trophy and was the first pick in the NFL draft.
With Newton gone, along with 16 other starters, the Auburn team is young. A young inexperienced team will most likely lead to a losing season. Of course, Chizik’s job security will not be at stake as the 2010 season has cemented his legendary status amongst fans. Regardless of the outcome of this season, expect to see a lot of Auburn NCAA tire covers and other paraphernalia scooped up before the first kick off of the 2011 season.
Football Preview: Florida Gators
At the end of the 2010 season, Florida Gators coach Urban Meyer walked away from the program. Under Meyer the tea won two national titles, but the 2010 performance did not live up to high expectations. When Meyer stepped aside it was to make room for Will Muschamp, a coach in waiting at Texas.
Muschamp, wisely, does not plan on completely revamping the program. He has brought Charlie Weis on as offensive coordinator which should be a boon for the program. After all, Weis, during his time with the New England Patriots, molded Tom Brady into a spectacular quarterback. Even with the addition of Weis, Muschamp and the Gators will probably experience a losing season. There’s just not enough strong returning talent to bring home another national title. Still, fans will want to stock up on Gators NCAA college grill covers because they’ll be treated to some quality football this season, even if the season overall doesn’t end in victory.
Red Sox Trump Yankees
As a Red Sox fan, there is nothing in this world I love more than beating the Yankees- especially when it means taking first place in the American League Eastern Division. That’s precisely what the Red Sox did on August 7th in an epic 10th inning win. The Red Sox were down, but managed to tie things up in the 9th.
At the start of the 10th inning, David Ortiz rallied with a one-out double. Then Carl Crawford was intentionally walked, followed by Josh Reddick ripping a hit into left field to allow Darnell McDonald the winning run. In case you haven’t been keeping count, that win improved Boston to 70-43, one game better than the Yankees. It also means that Red Sox have had 10 wins in 12 match ups with the evil empire. I do believe I’ll be driving around town with my Red Sox MLB tire covers, just to rub it in the face of my misguided Yankees fan friends.
Linebackers Roll Deep at K-State
Kansas State fans should take a close look at the linebackers this upcoming season. Instead of rotating between a veteran, two underclassmen, and a converted safety, K-State now has six solid linebackers. Arthur Brown, who transferred from Miami, Alex Hrebec, a senior, and Tre Walker, who stood out in his freshman year, will lead a traditional 4-3 formation, as opposed to the 4-2-5 formation that failed last season.
The depth of the linebackers should bode well for the defense as a whole. I bet the coaches certainly hope so! Regardless of the outcome, I’ll be out tailgating before the games with my Kansas State grill covers, tire covers, jerseys, and other K-State paraphernalia.
Now You’re Cooking with Gas!
Summer to me means lots of time outdoors. By time outdoors I of course mean “time in the backyard grilling while the kids are in the pool.” I have used both charcoal and gas grills, but this summer I’ve exclusively used gas grills.
There’s something about the ease of set up and clean up that I really enjoy about gas grills. With charcoal grills there is so much work that goes into getting the coals hot and then having to scoop out ash after it’s all done. With my gas grills, I just turn the gas off, throw on some gas grill covers and I’m all done with clean up
Ready for a Rematch!
College football season has yet to begin and already fans are heated up! At Florida State, tickets for the home game against Oklahoma are completely sold out. All of the full season tickets are sold out (the ticket package that includes all seven home games).
This just proves that Seminoles fans are ready for a rematch! The Seminoles won’t face Oklahoma until September 17. First they need to get through the season opener against Louisiana-Monroe on September 3. I’ll bet there are a ton of Florida State Seminoles tire covers in the parking lot for this upcoming season.
